Project FEED

How are we gonna get a world of consumers to give? Well, by letting them get something out of it, of course! Project FEED has caught on to this concept, selling different styles of bags for different amounts of money which will feed a certain number of kids a year. Check it out:

Plus, the bags are environmentally friendly! :D
Can you believe kids eat mud mixed with sugar just to feel full? It's disgusting that anybody has to live that way.

What Can You Do?

Here is another thing that confuses me:
The cost to subside hunger in developing countries is around $195 billion a year. 22 of the wealthiest countries have pledged to work towards donating 0.7% of their national income to international aid. That's really not that much. Now get this: Only 5 of those countries have met that goal. 11 countries have set their goal, and what year they will reach it. The other 6 countries, including the United States and Canada, have not even set a goal yet. I don't get it. Here's what you can do:

Print a letter and send it to your elected official, president, anyone who has a say about anything at all, and follow up! Have a party or something where everybody sends letters. Get everyone in your dorm to send letters. It's easy (click on "print a letter" and it will give you a template letter) and is the number one thing other than lobbying that will get the attention of our leaders!

Sam and Esther

My mom attends a Catholic church, and this church recently hosted a hunger conference. One of the main speakers at this conference was a renowned film maker and humanitarian, Mr. Gerry Straub. It was my mom's duty/privilege to make sure Gerry was comfortable and could get to places he needed to be throughout the conference. So I came home from college this weekend and mom kept telling me I needed to watch one of his films, they are so powerful and will change my life, etc.

I watched this one.
1 minute in, I could barely utter "I can't watch this."
20 seconds more, and tears were streaming down my face.
If you don't believe that things are really that bad in the world, this will prove you cynics wrong.
Don't be put off by the length, it goes quickly and is very worth watching.
